Obama's Proposed Stimulus

Just in case you missed it (I almost did), here was the last comment made on the previous post...

I just thought I would make a new post for this comment so that everyone can add their input. So what do you all think?

I was kind of shocked (well, not really) to hear that Obama's proposal was filled with billions in tax cuts for businesses who hire additional workers. Didn't he spend a lot of time during his campaign making fun of McCain for wanting to give tax breaks to businesses when it was "middle class Americans" instead who needed the help?

It is interesting to see the negative reaction from some of the dems in congress (Barney Frank, John Kerry, and Nancy Pelosi to name a few). They were flabbergasted at the idea of including these tax breaks for businesses as part of the stimulus. What is ironic is that the $170 billion in rebate checks for these middle-class, main street folk issued last year had absolutely ZERO stimulative effect on the economy. Maybe Obama is trying something new. Maybe he, as a very smart politician, realizes that in order to get re-elected in 4 years, needs to move more towards the middle. There are a lot of 'maybes' swirling around Obama, but this new proposal coming from the President-elect's office has certainly upset many hard liberals in the legislative branch who had hoped that Obama would continue with his hard liberal ways after winning the presidency. The same thing happened in 92 after Clinton won. He had a democratic congress to work with, but in clinton's push for reelection, alienated many in his own party in congress with moderate proposals, ended up fighting with them, nothing got done, and the republicans swept back into power in 94 as a result.

Will something similar happen in the next 2 years? I doubt it, but one can still hope, right? ;)

I'm just way super impressed Melanie knew how to take my exact quote from the comments page in the previous post. That is a technical miracle.

Why? Why are we spending MORE money? If a stimulus package means my children will pay it back, I don't want anything to do with it. The money would be nice, but we can live without it. If the government wants to bail out the banks, why not pay off some home loans? Maybe the good ones that deserve it...LIKE MINE!! When we bought our house, we were approved for much more than what our house cost. I think we were approved for upwards of $150K. The house we bought was a forclosure and was $84,625-closing and everything. It's 4-bedrooms/2 baths, 10 years old and I can even see my husband's hangar from my driveway!!! It's perfect. We're in absolutely no danger of losing it, but I'd like it a lot better if the gov't decided to do it this way. At least let me benefit from the bailouts!! Why can't everyone live within their means anyway??!!
