Is it me or Obamacare?

There have been a few things happening worth talking about, but no new activity for a while. So here is a question regarding Obamacare: What are the chances that the taxes, etc. that will be collected over the next four years to help pay for Obamacare will be saved up and available to actually help pay for the costs of Obamacare once the four years are up? I believe that whatever gets collected will be spent, and not on Obamacare. Since the Government has no discipline to dedicate and segregate money collected for a specific purpose (see Social Security), we can add those misappropriated dollars (for at least four years) to the cost of the Obamacare bill. What say you?

It's not that they don't have the discipline, it's that they really have no reason to be responsible, nor any requirement. They are all-powerful.

Sorry, but this whole health care bill thing has jaded the garbage out of me.

Thanks for commenting. It will be a while before there is much to say.

I was planning on posting a longer one when I had more time to collect my thoughts about all of this (maybe I'll pump one out tomorrow). But on this point, you're absolutely right.

First of all, who would sign up for a mortgage or a car loan that required you to make 4 years worth of payments before you could move in, or drive the car off the lot? That's silly. Second, wouldn't it really make you mad knowing the institution that was taking your checks was squandering those payments on something other than the metaphorical car/house?

Obama is going to win through sheer determination. I'm on the sidelines and feel exhausted. My mood turns sour when I hear any talk of politics, and he's shifting into overdrive.

I do agree with your comments, though. The government has a credit score of 302 but virtually an unlimited credit line.

I'm interested to see how this is gonna play out. I really like parts of this bill. I think it's extremely unfair an insurance company can drop your coverage if you get sick. As for the cost and government spending overall, I am hoping that republicans get voted into congress and start making cuts, and we can get back to where we were in the late 90's with having a surplus so we can start paying off debt. It makes me uneasy knowing the government is spending so much over what is brought in. I like the idea of reform, but am feeling the bite when thinking of the cost. I'd like to see what happens to the deficit from 2030 to 2040 with this bill, when we're all the way into it.

Don't worry about seeing more republicans in congress as a result of the midterm elections. That's a given, especially with independents going against the health care bill 3 to 1. What I'm worried about is what they will do and how they will vote once they're there. Will they be truly conservative, putting an emphasis on fiscal responsibility and small government, or will they be wolves in sheep's clothing like they were during the Bush years?
