I'm just curious to hear everyone's reaction and thoughts about this week's big headline. There are a lot of potential angles deserving of comment, so please leave your thoughts below.
I wasn't going to comment on this because I doubted my opinion on the topic would be warmly received here. But there haven't been any comments yet and I don't want Devin to think no one reads his stuff (I'm here for ya, bro!).
I didn't comment mostly because this is a non-event for me. It doesn't mean anything. It doesn't change anything. As a Christian, I can't rightly celebrate the murder of anyone, even a man whom everyone has judged to be evil. The abominable and repulsive thirst for blood displayed by many Americans makes me sick, especially since it has in no way been satiated by this event, just as it wasn't by the previous ten or so times Bin Laden has been reported dead.
I'm just glad that, now that Bin Laden is dead, we can finally repeal the PATRIOT Act. Oh wait, it got extended.
Well, we can eliminate the TSA. Oh wait, they're extended it to the railways now.
Well, at least we can scale back our overseas military operations. Oh wait, a bill was recently introduced in Congress that would give the President absolute and indefinite military powers, anywhere in the world, without authorization from anyone.
Well, at least we can close Guantanamo and stop torturing people and stop the warrantless surveillance of American citizens and get all our civil rights back. Oh wait...
I guess what sickens me the most is that this one death has made headlines for weeks. You can't watch or read anything without it being mentioned. But you can't even find the names of the women and children murdered by U.S. drones in Pakistan and Afghanistan, let alone be bombarded by these stories in the media. The War on Terror has the claimed the lives of hundreds of thousands of innocent people, not to mention the thousands of soldiers killed. To think that one more death is going to change anything would be laughable if it weren't so deplorable.
Become active in politics. Help destroy the myth that “politics are dirty.” The fact is: politics are essential. The Lord has stressed that we ought to be concerned and involved in promoting good government. You simply have to realize that the political process is the way to attain that objective.

I know that I disagreed with Nic on his ideas of absolute freedoms but I agree on this Bin Laden fiasco. What a joke. A link to ponder:

Is it a coincidence that we bombed Tora Bora off of the face of the map? Maybe, maybe not.
